Two back-to-back H2H Explorers’ Weekends were recently held at the Good Shepherd Convents in Bicol—first in Virac, Catanduanes, and then in Legaspi, Albay. Both experiences revealed how faith, resilience, and openness can turn challenges into moments of grace.
Virac: Embracing the Unexpected
The H2H Explorers’ Weekend in the “happy island” of Virac took place on August 30–31, 2025, with six ladies and three gentlemen joining from different parts of Catanduanes. The team was composed of RGS Sisters Celeste, Virgo, Ailyn, Boots, and Lilly, with partners in mission Jing, Ma’am Salome, Neri, Nida, Jenny, and H2H alumni Mavic and Jasper.
The weekend was not without obstacles. One participant, Mary Grace, braved a four-hour motorbike ride just to attend. Even the whole-day power outage, limited facilities, and even the possibility of vacating the venue did not dampen the group’s spirit. With flexibility and faith, the explorers pressed on and remained focus on their inward journey, listening to their hearts. Finally, the group found refuge at the Contemplative’s Convent where the sisters warmly welcomed them. A sumptuous breakfast the next day was shared joyfully sealing the community bond.
As Sr. Sky aptly put it after the “adventures” were shared with her, “What a journey it has been.” With joy, We welcomed our new H2H Virac Explorers Batch 1 with open hearts, cherishing the memories of our time together. The theme song of the group echoed their sentiments: embracing the journey, no matter the twists and turns. The experience was a reminder that the best journeys unfold in unexpected ways.
Legaspi: H2H with St John Eudes
Just a week later, on September 6–7, another H2H Weekend unfolded at the Trinitas Retreat House in Bagacay, Legaspi. For this batch other H2H team members from Manila came, Fr. Errol Salcedo, CJM, and Tess Barsaga. From Good Shepherd Home Legaspi, partner in mission Rose Lugo and H2H alumni Anjo and Marissa helped out. Seven young women joined, reflecting and discerning where God may be calling them.
The presence of the relic of St. John Eudes, whose Bicentennial Jubilee of canonization is celebrated this year, gave special depth to the weekend. Though not as adventurous, the Legaspi experience was equally meaningful, reminding participants that God speaks both in calm and challenging moments.
Journeys of the Heart
These two weekends in Bicol showed that while the path may not always be smooth, God’s grace is present in every circumstance. Blackouts, delays, or unexpected changes cannot hinder the Spirit when hearts remain open. Like the explorers of Virac and Legaspi, who listened deeply and walked courageously, the invitation is always to trust that each step brings us closer to where God is calling.
