With SJE, Pilgrims of Hope to the Heart of Jesus and Mary

Triduum for the Feast of St. John Eudes, 2025

There is an interesting quote about St. John Eudes that can gently start us off on this Pilgrimage in this special year of Two Jubilees for us. “St. John Eudes is a Saint who traveled only a few square miles in His lifetime, yet to pilgrimage spiritually with him is to delve deeply into the Heart of Jesus and Mary.” This is something we would like to do. A Pilgrimage of Hope that fills us with joy.

For St. John Eudes, gratitude is an essential virtue of Christian life. He recommended it to all his spiritual sons and daughters. He kept a sort of diary in which he recorded year after year the principal events of his life and titled it MEMORIALE BENEFCIORUM DEI. This work, in John Eudes’ own words is a record “of the principal favors which I have received from God through His Son our Lord Jesus Christ and His most holy Mother, for which I must incessantly praise and thank Him.” He lists 105 graces from God, starting from his birth in 1601 and ending with an entry of July 25, 1680 when he finished writing his last book, The Admirable Heart of the Most Holy Mother of God. It was less than a month before his holy death on August 19, 1680.

From the Memoriale, the Eudist Interprovincial Spirituality team selected 10 major events, marking significant milestones in the spiritual journey of our saint. These 10 stages, direct quotes from St. John Eudes, will enable us again to get in touch with his life and work so that we, in turn, can discover and claim the spiritual heritage he has bequeathed to us.

During this year’s Triduum before his feast, let us try to make a pilgrimage with St. John Eudesin a two-fold way. As we enter into the events and mysteries of his life, let us ask him to help us discover God’s plan and action in our own lives.
