Dear friends, join us in prayer as we entrust our beloved +Sr. Mary Catherine Medalla to the Lord. Sister peacefully entered eternal life on Nov 8, 2024. We give thanks for her 65 years of faithful service to the mission as an apostolic Good Shepherd Sister.
In reflecting on her vocation, Sister wrote:
“I attribute my perseverance to my fidelity to prayer and the practice of silence at certain hours of the day; my awareness of God’s unconditional love for me and the knowledge that He has chosen me; my devotion to and dedication in the ministries entrusted to me; and the support I received from particular sisters, priests, and family.”
Sister also shared a cherished memory from her childhood: when she was a chubby 3-year-old, her elder sister Carmelita (who also became a Good Shepherd Sister, d. 2012) brought her to school to play the role of Baby Jesus in their Nativity tableau. “Little did I know,” she wrote, “that my only role was to sit still on the lap of a lovely lady playing the Blessed Mother. To keep me still, I was bribed with a statuette of the Good Shepherd, which my mother kept for many years.”
Now, dear Sister, rest in stillness and peace, embraced and at home in the loving arms of our Good Shepherd and the Blessed Mother!
