On July 31, 2024, the 228th anniversary of St. Mary Euphrasia’s birth, we had the joy of welcoming three new pre-novices: Leatriz Ongsamson from Quezon City, Marisse Lorono from Moalboal, Cebu, and Reah Deseree Uy from Zamboanga City. It delighted everyone that these three pre-novices represent the three major island groups of the Philippines: Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
The acceptance ritual took place at Christine Hall in the Good Shepherd Convent, Quezon City, and was attended by sisters from the communities in the compound, along with partners in mission Jenny Caminade, Jecar Enoroba, Berna Panganiban, and Tess Barsaga.
In a beautiful gesture of welcome and support, the Filipino pre-novices Amabell Bonete, MJ Binarao, and LJ Largado performed a song of encouragement on ukulele. Meanwhile, the Vietnamese pre-novices—Bakhita, Helena, Simon, Martina, Gloria, and Lucia—presented symbolic gifts of candles and flowers, which they offered to St. John Eudes, St. Mary Euphrasia, Our Lady, St. Joseph, and the Good Shepherd.
The blessing and giving of SME (St. Mary Euphrasia) medals was led by Sr. Susan Montano, Province Leader, and Sr. Leah Ann Espina, who will serve as their companion and formator during this stage of their formation.
As the ceremony drew to a close, a touching blessing prayer was led by Sr. Tess Figueroa, PLT for Formation, for the three new pre-novices and Sr. Leah Ann. For their “pabaon” (farewell gift), the pre-novitiate formation team—Srs. Maureen Catabian, Jacinta Duong, and Leah Ann Espina—read inspiring messages from St. Mary Euphrasia, offering words of encouragement and hope not only to the three new pre-novices but to everyone present. “Courage, go forward” dear Lea, Reah and Marisse!
