“Pag-ibig at Paghahandog” was the theme of the Eucharistic Celebration for the First Profession of Vows of our novice Sr. Maria Niña Niño last June 24, 2021, Feast of John the Baptist at the Good Shepherd Chapel in Quezon City.
In her introduction, Sr Lea Comia, Novice Directress, mentioned the three things we are celebrating this year of which we are grateful for: the quincentennial of Christianity in the Philippines, the Year of St Joseph, and the centennial jubilee of RGS presence in Manila. It is in the context of these celebrations that we also thank God for the blessing of Sr Niña’s vocation and first profession.
Fr Robert Leus, CJM, mass presider emphasized in his homily how the theme chosen by Sr. Niña summarizes the story of her vocation which began with a profound experience of God’s love to which she also responded with love and offering of self in service of God and His people.
In her message and in the missioning of Sr Niña, Sr Susan Montano, Province Leader, reminded Niña of her important role as a young sister and encouraged her to find her voice and unique contribution to the life and mission of the community.
As her response Sr Niña heartily sung “Binhi ng Pag-ibig” a composition by Mimo Perez that resonated well with her personal journey. In her thanksgiving, Sr Niña acknowledged the love and faith of her mother who supported her vocation despite having enough reasons not to allow her so.
Sr Niña was missioned to the Euphrasian Community on her first year as an apostolic temporary professed sister.
Gratefully, despite the pandemic, her family was able to attend and join the celebration. The day truly gave us joy and hope amidst the continued challenges we are facing with the rest of the world.
Introduction by Sr Mary Lea Comia, RGS, Novice Directress (Excerpt)Si Sr. Nina ay isinilang sa San Francisco, Aurora, Quezon. Wala pa syang isang taon, lumipat silang mag-anak sa isla ng Quezon. Sabi nga niya, yan ang pagkakatulad nya kay SME na lumaki rin sa isla… Ang kanyang mga magulang ay sina Eugenia at Narciso. Ang kanyang papa ay pumanaw noong 2009. Siya ay bunso sa apat na babaing magkakapatid. Bago siya pumasok sa kumbento, nagtrabaho sya sa bilang Financial Analyst sa loob ng mahigit na 7 taon.Apat na taon syang kasapi ng The Feast, and samahan na binuo ni Bo Sanchez. Sa kanyang paglilingkod, ginambala sya ng Diyos… masaya naman sya sa ginagawa nyang paglilingkod, pero nadama niya na may hinahanap pa ang kanyang puso… Sa kanyang mga pananalangin, parang tinatawag siya ng Diyos na maglingkod hindi lamang sa The Feast… Palakas ng palakas ang tawag na ‘yun kaya nagtanong sya sa isa nyang kasamahan, si Joseph, kung may kilala syang tao na makakagabay sa kanyang discernment. Si Joseph ay kilala si Rose Tapia, na syang nagbigay ng number ni Sr. Cielo na noo’y Vocation Directress. At dun na nag-umpisa ang kanyang paglalakbay kasama si Jesus ang Mabuting Pastol.Bahagi ng kanyang discernment, nagkaroon s’ya ng pagkakataon na makasama ang mga kabataan sa Bukid Kabtaan, sa Ruhama Center at sa kababaihan ng Heart of Mary Villa. Sa mga panahon na kapiling sila, marami siyang natutunan. Tama nga ang sabi ni St Mary Euphrasia, “we owe our vocation to these children.” Ang mga madre at mga katuwang nila sa misyon ay naging inspirasyon din niya upang magpatuloy sa pagtugon sa tawag ng Mabuting Pastol.Ngayon ay masaya syang magtatalaga ng sarili sa Diyos sapagkat ang buhay nya na KALOOB ng DIYOS ay Malaya nyang IPAGKAKALOOB sa KAPWANG NANGANGAILANGAN bilang tugon sa TAWAG ng DIYOS.
Message of Sr Mary Susan Montano, Province LeaderUna muna ay nais kong batiin sila “Nanay Henya” at pamilya; Nanay, sa ngalan po ng mga madre ay gusto ko pong magpasalamat sa inyong paghahandog kay Nina sa Congregation. Alam ko pong hindi madali iyan lalo na sa panahon ng kagipitan ngayong pandemic, subalit mas nanaig sa inyo ang pagsunod ni Nina sa tawag ng Panginoon. Maraming Salamat po sa inyo!At sa iyo, Nina, Congratulations! Sa kabila ng maraming hamon na pinagdaanan, nanatili kang tapat sa pagtugon at pagsunod sa yapak ni Hesus ang ating Mabuting Pastol.Sa darating na ika-15 ng Agosto, ipagdiriwang natin sa Province ang 100yrs of RGS presence and ministry in Manila, at ang ating tema ay: “Through 100 years… SME’s legacy of hope and grace”. Naniniwala ako, Nina, na ikaw ay isang regalo sa amin ni Mother Foundress sa panahong ito – SME’s gift to us as a sign of hope for the future and for our mission.
Kaya sa iyong pakikipag-ugnayan sa mga sisters lalo na sa mas higit na nakatatanda, nawa’y maging bukas ka sa mga magagandang aral na iyong matututunan, sa kanilang wisdom na dulot ng kanilang karanasan ng pagsasabuhay bilang Good Shepherd Sisters.Subalit kailangan mo ding alalahanin na ikaw bilang isang young sister ay may mahalagang bahagi o kontribusyon din sa paglago ng iyong community at ng ating Province.Sa mensahe ni Pope Francis bilang paghahanda sa “Synod on Young People” noong 2017, sinabi nya ito sa mga kabataan:“Listen to the cry arising from your inner selves! Even when you feel, like the prophet Jeremiah, the inexperience of youth, God encourages you to go where He sends you: “Do not be afraid, […], because I am with you to deliver you” (Jer 1:8).A better world can be built also as a result of your efforts, your desire to change and your generosity. Do not be afraid to listen to the Spirit who proposes bold choices; do not delay when your conscience asks you to take risks in following the Master. The Church also wishes to listen to your voice, your sensitivities and your faith; even your doubts and your criticism. Make your voice heard, let it resonate in communities and let it be heard by your shepherds of souls.”At para naman sa ating mas nakatatandang mga madre (kasama din po ako dito), ito naman siguro ang hamon sa atin ni San Juan Bautista ngayon, na ating pakinggan ang tinig ng propeta sa mga kabataan, “the prophetic voice of the young” na minsan ay medyo mahirap pakinggan dahil hindi naaayon sa ating nakasanayan o hindi ayon sa ating kaalaman. Pero sinabi din ni Pope Francis sa Synod: “St. Benedict urged the abbots to consult, even the young, before any important decision, because “the Lord often reveals to the younger what is best.” At alam natin na sa patuloy na pagbabago ng mundo, mahalaga din ang pagbabago ng ating pananaw at kung paano tayo tutugon sa mga panibagong hamon ng misyon.Sa ating sama-samang pasasalamat sa Diyos sa biyaya ng ating bokasyon bilang mga GS Sisters at maging mga lay partners, nawa tayo ay mapuspos ng biyaya na maisabuhay and ating Province Chapter theme: Transformed by Love, Passionate for Mission!”
